Tentang Koleksi Ini
Opae Ula (Halocaridina rubra), also known as the Hawaiian volcano shrimp or Hawaiian red shrimp, is a tiny, incredibly hardy species of brackish-water shrimp endemic to the Hawaiian Islands. Measuring only about 1.5 cm (0.5 inches) long, they are widely celebrated as one of the easiest aquatic pets to care for, boasting an astonishing lifespan of over 20 years in proper conditions. Need brackish water with salinity 1.009 - 1.015 SG.
🌋 Natural HabitatIn the wild, Opae Ula inhabit rare ecosystems known as anchialine pools. These are landlocked, volcanic rock pools near the ocean that have underground connections to both saltwater and freshwater. Because these pools fluctuate with the tides and rainfall, Opae Ula evolved to withstand extreme shifts in salinity, temperature, and oxygen levels. When pools dry out or conditions turn harsh, they can retreat deep into the porous subterranean lava tubes for extended periods.
🏠 Why They Make Perfect Low-Maintenance PetsBecause of their evolutionary resilience, a properly established Opae Ula aquarium requires minimal intervention.
No Filters or Bubblers Required: They have an incredibly low bioload and survive easily without automated filtration or aeration.
Rarely Need Feeding: They primarily graze on the naturally occurring biofilm and algae that grow in their tank. If the tank has adequate lighting to grow algae, you may only need to supplement their diet with a tiny speck of spirulina or fish food once every few weeks.
No Water Changes: Unlike traditional aquariums, you almost never change their water. You simply top off the tank with distilled or reverse osmosis (RO) water or distrilled water (TDS 0) whenever evaporation.
